Each golfer will be raising money for Alpine Children’s Charity.
How? By getting family, friends, neighbors and coworkers

their best effort in raising $2,000 (or $20/hole) in pledges.

2009 EVENT
The 3rd annual 100 Holes of Golf—A Golf Marathon was another big success. The fourteen golfers enjoyed the beautiful weather and once again raised over $25,000. We always love to share some fun facts about our participants in hopes that some of you will join us next year!
Adults:
Doug Mele – 9 year veteran (6 with Bear Necessities) – vowed last year it was his last time but rallied for the cause. Thanks Dougie! Along with Cindy, had the quickest round!
Mike Curran – 9 year veteran (6 with Bear Necessities) – played with nephew Nick all day. Finished their 100 holes and discovered one of the “slow groups” still had an hour or two to go. Decided to play another 11 holes to break the “Most Holes Played” record –held the record for about 30 minutes! Mike didn’t know a playing partner could actually talk the entire 6 plus rounds – but Nick did it!
Matt Hunt – 2 year veteran – found us on the internet last year by googling “golf marathons”. Matt is a golf nut with a family history of congenital heart defects doing his part to help find cures.
Art Hagg – 2 year veteran – played lights out – his rounds varied from 72-75. Very impressive!
Tony Cardenas – 2 year veteran – he’s been training for the Chicago Marathon so riding in a cart for 11 hours was a piece of cake for him. Only tough part was playing with Luke all day!
Cindy DeTrempe - 2 year veteran –played in record time-10 ½ hours. Continues to hold the “Oldest Female” finisher record. However, we’re trying to get “grandma” out there next year!
Kids:
Nick DeTrempe (20) - 3 year veteran – enjoyed the day off work-road construction! Set the record for “Most Holes Played Without a Birdie” - 97! Couldn't handle the head to head competition with Uncle Mike.
Jack DeTrempe (19) - 3 year veteran – also enjoyed the day off work-road construction too!
Hank DeTrempe (16) - 2 1/2 year veteran (slept in his first year and missed the first 50 holes or so) Uncle Mike gave him a little grief when he finished for being so slow. Turns out he played 113 holes to eclipse Nick and Mike’s short lived record of 111 holes. Not bad for a soccer and lacrosse player.
Luke DeTrempe (14) - 3 year veteran –still holds the record for “Youngest Finisher” at age 12. Tried to shake Tony but they finished the 100 holes with identical scores! Started on the 3 time defending state champs – St Viator’s – varsity golf team.
Barrett Stephan (14) - 2 year veteran – only guy we know who can get very bloody on the golf course. Says he fell running to get his golf ball! Not sure we’ll ever know the real story. Went on the DL after 60 holes.
Greg Conrad (14) - first timer – Freshman at Barrington HS - started on the varsity team!
Nick Antoniou – first timer – Junior at St. Viator and also a member of the Viator championship golf team.
Shane Owens – first timer – Sophomore at Notre Dame – never played golf in high school – stuck to “real sports” - standout soccer, hockey and baseball player – never thought he could do it but finished with over 100 holes!
For those of you following the epic “Doug vs Mike” battle that started 8 years ago – with a tie – 430 to 430, it is still a tie!! However, using Doug’s original tie breaker rules, Mike won this year with 7 birdies to 6.
The golf’s a lot of fun but we all know this is about raising money for some very worthwhile causes and getting kids involved in philanthropy. The money raised will go to three charities focused on research of childhood diseases-Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The Children’s Heart Foundation and Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
